With his Maury County EP, which gave us the breakthrough smash “How It Oughta Be,” Shane Profitt introduced us to a pure showcase of his down-home, country boy cred wrapped into an attractive modern infused style that pulled together elements of 90’s country with traditional country ideals.

He now returns with his first new music since the EP with “Still Picks Up.”

Written by Shane with Matt Dragstrem and Adam James, the song tilts into a more emotional side of the fun-loving country boy then we’ve heard from him on his prior releases, pulling straight from an ultra-personal moment of nearly losing his father after he experienced a stroke during their annual hunting trip.

Profitt leans directly into the age-old importance to call ‘em while you still can, maturely admitting in the opening verse that it’s his own fault that he hasn’t been taking the time to make the call to his dad, finding excuses in that he has a lot on his mind, too much on his plate, etc.

However, reaching a shining revelation by the time the chorus strikes, Profitt embraces the fact that while each conversation may be nothing more than simple, throw away talks that seem like nothing at the time, they’ll end up meaning everything later:

“I'm gonna call him while he still picks up

Gonna ask 'em if he ever killed that buck

We saw last fall on Hoover Mason road

Did he keep that truck or did he let it go?

Did he catch a fish and did he catch the game?

Is he praying for sun or is he praying for rain?

We can talk all day or we ain't gotta say much

But I'm gonna call him while he still picks up”

Incredible lyrics captivated by an honest delivery have become a signature that Shane is known for, but whenever a song comes from a purely heartfelt place it just hits differently. There’s a noticeable flavor of realness embedded into each word, each phrase, that carries the proper emotional tugs so that it quickly resonates with the listener.

Shane Profitt not only transparently shares his heart with the listener on “Still Picks Up,” but he absolutely provides us with the bold reminder to momentarily hit our own pause button and take the time to make that phone call to our parents before it’s too late and we’re living with “should’ve” regrets.
