RICOCHET - Beauty Of Who You Are - Encore Music Group

As country music over the past year has seen some resurgence of the 90’s branded sound, who can forget the rich vocal groups of that era: Little Texas, Diamond Rio, Lonestar, and Ricochet!

Known for their smash hits “Daddy’s Money,” “What Do I Know,” “He Left A Lot To Be Desired,” and “Love Is Stronger Than Pride,” all which are included on their newest compilation Then and Now, Ricochet has reemerged into the spotlight with not only a handful of their most memorable hits, but also with a healthy offering of solid newer material.

While “I Had to be Me” and “Keep You Lovin’ Me” have both garnered solid streaming numbers since the album released last month, “Beauty Of Who You Are” has become the focus track as it offers something a little different from the pre-conceived expectations we already have of the vocal group’s signature sound.

The song, written by Marc Broussard, Radney Foster, and Justin Tocket, originally appeared on Broussard’s 2004 album Carencro, and while several groups will understandably tackle cover songs by twisting their own originality into them, Ricochet intriguingly keeps this one close to the original to give it a flavor that swerves their country norms.

Sticking to the soulful R&B touches of the softer paced song, lead vocalist Heath Wright is really able to showcase his incredible vocal control as he brings us through the sensual lyric, showing in great detail the amount of attention he pays to his better half’s attributes:

“There's a soft, sweet space on the back of your neck, smells like rain”

“There's a silent conversation filled with hidden revelations in your eyes”

“There's a way you move my soul to sing, only you know how”

Hitting into a higher falsetto within his lead vocals fully enhances the power of the chorus while the groups signature harmonies slide into the lights down low, candle lit aura as he showers her with continued praise:

“Baby, I'm so into you
Every whisper from your soul to my heart
Baby, I know it's true
You're the sweet little mystery sent to me from the start
And that's the beauty of who you are”

Where a lot of today’s country music surrounds itself with up-tempo beats and a targeted intention of striking the right chords with the younger, twenty-something demographic, Ricochet comes along with a song that perfectly fills a much-needed void for the married and head over heels couples who are looking for the perfect musical accompaniment for their steamy night in together.
