Chelsey James has clearly found her unique path, stayed in her lane, and has been delivering powerful song after powerful song.

Whereas her last single “Must’ve Been Drunk” took us into the emotions of walking away from a dead relationship, her brand-new single “Steady” takes us in the opposite direction and pours into the feeling of being able to completely fall into the one who is the rock in your life (aka your steady) when you aren’t so sure of yourself.

Laced mostly with simple piano instrumentation, the softer touches in the melody allow Chesley James to use her vocal abilities through each of the verses to deliver the necessary vulnerability as she sings us through transparently honest lines such as, “One day I’m strong, the next I’m weak,” while the chorus punches a bit more and allows James to lean into the power of her voice as she continues to expose more of these similar emotions such as being lost, scared, and crazy.

However, as much as this lyric focuses on being honest about oneself, it’s more so about praising the one you can lean on to help you through these emotionally driven moments:

“And on my worst of days you’re my saving grace.”

“You let me know I can breathe again.”

“But when I look at you, the bad can’t make it through to you and me.”

“Steady” is certainly a song that is built for today’s country radio. It is the big ballad that seems to be mostly missing from the Top 40. But more importantly, it is a song that peels back another layer of who Chelsey James is as an artist while allowing her to further stamp home the signature that is becoming the largest attribute to her continuing success: her amazing vocals!
