Adam Doleac has found success as a songwriter by landing cuts with Kane Brown, Gabby Barrett, and Darius Rucker, but the success of both “Whiskey’s Fine” and “Famous” have helped him make tremendous strides on the artist side.

He now returns with his brand-new single “Somewhere Cool With You,” a modern country infused mid-tempo that is perfectly suited to fit the current trends found on the Top 40.

The lyric contains several great pieces of storytelling as he weaves us through the first-person tale of him and his better half needing to find time to reconnect – something that anyone in a relationship can easily relate to.

“We were standing in the kitchen, she gave me that look and that half smile” opens the song, and from there he then unravels great line after great line about her missing him and just wanting to drop everything and go somewhere where they can disconnect and fall back into each other. And to her, it doesn’t matter if it’s palm trees or Paris just so long as it’s with him.

There are a lot of cool nostalgic references made in the song such as when he sings of pointing at a map rather than looking at GPS, or when he talks about snapping a bunch of pictures that they can look back on someday; And there’s just something about that photo line’s phrasing that reminds me more so of flipping through the photo albums of Polaroid’s like my grandmother used to have rather than just taking pictures on a cell phone.

Though the song never necessarily resolves and sees the couple going anywhere, the bridge points to the fact that they absolutely will as he sings: “I don’t want to just talk about it, so baby let’s get to packing.”

There are a lot of qualities to like about this song, especially in the way that some of the lines are crafted and lead you in certain directions without ever crossing into risky territory, such as when he sings “lose a little sleep in a hotel room.”

Whether or not this will make strides on major market radio remains to be seen, but I do expect Doleac to find his way back onto the Highway XM’s countdown with this song and take the next step forward on his country music artist path.
