With her song releases over the past year, such as “Love Me Back” and “Whiskey Weather,” songwriter Bri Fletcher has taken a major leap forward and is quickly emerging as one of the next breakouts of the Nashville music community.

She’s now ready to launch forward again with the release of her very strong single, “Astronaut.”

The song, co-written by Fletcher, Andrew Capra and Elysse Yulo, leans on a floaty, pop country groove that perfectly allows Bri to place her incredible vocals in the spotlight as she carries us through picture painting lyrics in the opening verse that instantly transport you to your childhood as she relives nostalgic memories of dreaming big.

The verse touches on two different scenarios - the first of pretending to be an astronaut in your own bedroom with the lights off and counting down to takeoff, while the second hits a little closer to home for the songwriter she is today as she relives singing into a hairbrush on the edge of her mattress pretending it’s a stage while mom and dad sat in the front row.

The second verse leans more into specific things and moments from her childhood rather than on scenarios as she sings of getting to go to McDonald’s on a weekday, TRL, MTV, etc. However, the second verse also presents the line of the song that adds the depth to the punch of the chorus when she sings, “No dreams were off limits!”

That punch in the chorus then hits even harder as she sings from her adult perspective on looking back to her childhood and wondering what happened to believing anything was possible and if she can somehow get it back today, as we get on lines such as:

“I was flyin’ through the backyard, now I’m flyin’ through the years.”

“When did I fall through the clouds, crash into the ground, start asking the why’s or why not’s?”

With the world in constant emotion around us, we often lose that childlike perspective that we need to hold on to so much to help carry us through moments of life that drag us down as adults. Bri Fletcher has found a very crafty way on “Astronaut” to use her extremely strong songwriting skills to hook us in with the nostalgic touches, so that she can then deliver the challenge to us to rediscover what dreaming big looks like!
