TracieLynn has given us a really good overall look at who she is as an artist over the past year. We’ve seen her gritter, sassy side on “All Goes South,” she got us feeling summery titled vibes on “Welcome to the Party,” and embedded an entirely different dynamic into her arsenal with the softer paced, “Your Whiskey.”

She now returns with “One Plus One,” a stunning duet with Cody Purvis that was written by Music Row heavyweights Shane McAnally, Jessi Alexander, and Josh Osborne.

With a melody built to bring you to the dancefloor of your favorite honkytonk for a close slow dance with your better half, the steamy song leans on a lyric that sings of the all too familiar tale of not being able to resist each other after a breakup.

TracieLynn first sets the stage as she paints the scene that led to their coming back together (this time), singing of it only taking one how you been, one lonely Saturday night, one whiskey sour, and one of those same old looks. However, she also defines the depth of the lyric during this opening verse when she sings the confessing line of, “You take one old flame that ain’t really done.”

Like a drink, the chorus reveals what you get when you mix all those ingredients together:

One plus one equals 2AM

Lips on bottles ending up on skin

No matter how you do the math

Yeah, it always ends

One plus one equals 2AM.”

Purvis takes over the leads on the second verse as he then defines from the male point of view how  they both know exactly what is going to happen as he sings of how they’re kidding themselves when they say just one drink, how once the start they won’t quit, and how singles always turn to doubles – the latter which offers us a really strong line that foreshadows that second chorus perfectly, as its play on words go from talking about drinks to talking about being with one another.

By using both perspectives, “One Plus One” gives us a very real look at what goes on in the hearts of both sides during moments like these – moments that many of us have experienced ourselves. Couple that connectability factor with fantastic lyrics, a gripping melody, and stellar vocals from both singers that capture all the emotions perfectly, and TracieLynn has delivered what might be her strongest effort yet.
