With the bold initiative of releasing a new song every Friday in 2022, the CCB Nashville label has been cranking out solid tunes from each emerging talent on their roster since the beginning of the year. However, the second Friday of the month belongs to the veterans of the roster - Cash Creek.

With their new release “My Heart’s Goin’ Nowhere,” we hear the band veering off from their usually decisively 90’s country signatures and delivering a bit of a different sound for them.

Behind the familiarity of their normal instrumentation tones sits a programmed pop laden backbeat that is hard not to notice the moment you hit play. It’s very new for Cash Creek to include these type of production elements in their music, but it also provides a fresh dynamic that elevates their sound forward into more of the modern era, while skillfully allowing room for the smoothness of the vocals to be carried over the top of the beat very well.

Their signature feels can still be deciphered in this song, though, especially within’ the lyrics.

With their last turn out, Cash Creek gave a new perspective to Maggie Rose’s incredibly heartfelt love song “It’s You,” and “My Heart’s Goin’ Nowhere” continues along a similar line with a head over heels in love idea.

The lyric paints the many ways that she’s making him feel by being part of his life, singing of being hopeful for the first time in a long time, at a loss for words whenever she whispers his name, and hypnotized by her blue eyes.

However, the true depth to this lyric comes when we discover his patience with her regarding them jumping even deeper into this feeling.

When we hit the chorus, he follows a listing of his attributes with the very strong, reassuring line that changes the entire tone of the song, “you can take as long as it takes, I swear, my heart’s goin’ nowhere” – something which is reiterated later in the song when he sings, “I’m not asking you to jump right in.”

Whereas many tunes that carry this subject matter will usually see the guy in the situation trying his best to convince the girl to take that next step because of the way he’s feeling, Cash Creek very maturely puts the emphasis on what she’s feeling instead; clearly knowing that until she’s ready, it won’t work right if they move too fast – and he wants it to be right!

Cash Creek sidestepped a lot of their signatures to give us something a little different with the feel of this song. However, they’re also smart enough to know that they couldn’t completely abandon what got them here as they tried this new thing out. That combination of new with the old has paid off. Their diehard fans itch for more new music is surely satisfied, while new listeners will be discovering them because of the freshness of the sound.
