THOMAS RHETT
"Us Someday"
The Valory Music Co.
Thomas Rhett is one of country music’s biggest artists right now, and a big part of why he stays on top is his uncanny ability to release all the right songs in the perfect timing so that his fans are continuously intrigued and raise the height of the buzz as he teases whatever project he is currently working on.
That’s what he’s been doing over the past couple months ahead of his sixth studio album Where We Started with songs such as his current Top 20 “Slow Down Summer,” “Church Boots,” “Angels,” and now, “Us Someday.”
Rhett’s love story and homelife with his family has always been a center piece to what makes him so endearing, and whenever he can take that side of his being and combine it with the side that lives in the country music spotlight, he delivers a song that connects with the audience on a different type of level.
That’s exactly what he’s done with “Us Someday,” a song he co-wrote with Rhett Akins, Jesse Frasure, and Amy Wadge.
As the sound of a string arrangement laces the instrumentation on the onset, you’re quickly brought into a very unique vibe for Rhett that has he himself saying about the song, “I also love how different this song sounds from the rest on the project.”
But ultimately, as with any love song from Rhett (see “Die A Happy Man”) it’s strong lyrics and the honesty wrapped into his vocal emotions that elevate the song.
“I do with a ring on your hand, raise a toast with some cheap champagne,” begins the song as Rhett starts painting the vivid picture to his now wife/then girlfriend Lauren of what their wedding would look like, immediately transporting you back in time to when they were wide eyed and dreaming about the different milestone moments they’d have together.
He continues down this dreaming of future moments path as he talks about having a couple kids running wild in the backyard, taking road trips as a family, and going to little league on Saturday’s, before fully advancing the story way forward into the future when he speaks of them being together until their hair is turning gray and they’re sitting on old rocking chairs talking about all their memories.
Of course, all these moments he is talking about are all designed to lead to the irresistible hook, “That’ll be us someday.”
This is a very clever twist to a lyric that hits on the things that truly matter most in life. I personally grew up in a house where we were told to never miss out on the moments, because they will become your cherished memories, and Rhett completely hits a bullseye on that statement as he once again finds a way to blend the man and the artist into one person through a song that will absolutely heighten the already strong buzz ahead of his album release.
