CASH CREEK
"It Feels Good"
CCB Nashville
The CCB Nashville label continues to roll out songs from their artist roster every week as part of their #newmusicfridays initiative, and as it’s now the second week of March, we get a new release from Cash Creek.
We’ve gotten a few different looks from their previous two releases in 2022 – the modern, pop backbeat laden “My Heart’s Goin’ Nowhere,” and an incredibly romantic twist into a male perspective on their cover of Maggie Rose’s stunning, “It’s You.”
They now give us “It Feels Good,” a song which sees them delving back into their crisp 90’s country comfort zone, but also reenergizing it by adding a kick through edgier guitars that help drive home the rock kissed edge of the overall vibe of the “girl gone wild” lyric.
Leaning into a boot heel clicking rhythm and the rip of the fiddle, you’re quickly pulled into the story of a girl who has left her hometown far behind in the dust and has now landed 500 miles away from it in a place where no one knows who she is, and where she can re-find herself with a new beginning.
As we pace our way to the chorus on the back of an extremely catchy melody, we’re slapped with an addicting “whoa ohhh” that will instantly get the listener singing along, while the story progresses as we now find the main character finally being able to feel completely free enough to truly be herself as the lyrics sing:
“She’s on a mission to lose all her inhibitions
To do everything that she never could
It’s been a minute since she’s got to be this bad
And it feels good”
She realizes that in some ways she’s being reckless as it’s told in the second verse, but as it’s also said, she’s making unforgettable memories as she continues to rediscover who she is throughout the night.
Cash Creek really shows off their know-how and expertise within the structure of this lyrical story. By never really providing the reasons that she felt the need to leave her hometown, it becomes wide open to listener interpretation which will absolutely help connect the lyric to their own personal story.
When you couple that very strong connection factor with several perfectly placed moments that they drop into the song that can easily lend themselves to audience participation, “It Feels Good” becomes a tremendously solid addition to the Cash Creek setlist to give them a surefire way to engage the live audience and draw them in.
