ELLE KING
"Out Yonder"
RCA Records
Singer-songwriter Elle King continues to add to her widely diverse musical catalogue with her latest single, “Out Yonder”. The tune features a variety of elements across a multitude of genres, but certainly encapsulates the right amount of honky-tonk country attitude to appeal to her ever-increasing number of fans.
While she may still be best known for her number one hit from 2014, “Ex’s and Oh’s”, and she is typically labeled as a pop-rock artist, King grew up with influences from country music, most notably Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. Thus, it is not difficult to understand how “Out Yonder”, a banjo-laced, pack-punching sing-along tune to cleverly amusing lyrics came to be.
The tune centers on the premise of how easily gossip spreads in a small town. It’s not a new topic by any means, but it’s a hilarious take and story told through witty lyrics that will leave the listener guessing what comes next the first time through, and will subsequently have us all singing along the second time around.
Written by Ella Langley, Matt McKinney, and Bobby Hamrick, the song focuses on the banjo and electric guitar to drive into the listener’s headstream, offering elements of a southern rock anthem with catchy lyrics that all can appreciate and enjoy.
“Gotta rip it right up at the roots
You can keep your mouth runnin’
Hell Jesus might love ya’
But that don’t mean I do
So take your front page, two faced, petty ass drama
Leave it out, leave it out, leave it out yonder”
King recently took home the Video of The Year award at the 57th ACM Awards for “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” with Miranda Lambert. This marked the second time the two ladies collaborated and won the awards, with the first being “Fooled Around and Fell In Love” in 2020. Elle is set to hit the road with Chris Stapleton on his ‘All American Roadshow’ tour later this year.
