We got our first taste of Alyssa Marie Coon through her song “Put It Down,” and there was something intriguing about her pop country style and uniquely tinged vocal wrapping around it that gave her a feel that was so familiar to the Top 40 without ever fully sounding like it as she carried her own vibe.

The Florida native has continued to build her fan base since then, playing some of the biggest stages in her neck of the woods, recording in Nashville, and one upping herself with each subsequent release; the Nashville version of “Before I’m Out There” and  the ultra-catchy “Real Good Night.”

She now returns with her brand-new single “Break It Fast,” and once again, as we’ve come to expect from her, she raises the bar to another level.

Co-written by Alyssa with Kayleigh Delozier and Kristin Demlow of Steel Ivory, she perfects her decisively modern pop country sound to deliver a mid-tempo flavored song that leans of a soft touch in its instrumentation throughout the verses to provide a pop backbeat behind her very strong vocal as she packs the proper emotional grip into a song about the tough task of breaking up with the person you’ve been with for a good while.

Taking us straight into the moment that tells him of her breaking away from the relationship, Coon sings us through the opening verse about needing to just rip it off like a band-aid because as tough as it is to walk away, time won’t make it any easier and this way will hurt less than dragging it out.

The punch of the chorus continues to push directly into this idea as she sings:

“I don’t wanna drag it out or lead you on

When the spark we lit is already gone

Cause the off and on of what we had is better off left in the past

I could keep trying, we could keep lying but it ain’t gonna last

So If I know I’m gonna break your heart

I’m gonna break it fast.”

However, this lyric progresses forward with maturity as she fully admits that it’s 100% her and that he didn’t do anything wrong, reassuring him as she lets him down easy by stating that she doesn’t hate him, that there’s nothing wrong with him, and that there is someone out there better suited for him that will want forever – it’s just not her anymore.

The truth is that we all have some relationships that are real stinkers, but what makes this song so endearing is that’s not at all where Coon is at here. The relationship seems fine, but she’s recognizing their differences and that they just aren’t as evenly yoked as they’ve continued to grow as individuals, so then why drag out the inevitable.

That factor, combining with all her unique attributes, makes “Break It Fast” the song that will elevate Alyssa Marie Coon to the next level as she turns the pain to open a new chapter and boldly tosses her name in the running as one to watch!
