CCB Nashville continues their incredible #newmusicfriday initiative as they kick off the first Friday of the month with “Unbridled,” another stellar tune from Megan Mullins Owen that pulls back a bit of different layer to reveal something we haven’t gotten too much from her previous releases so far this year.

We’ve already heard a Texas swing style on “This Good Is Gettin’ Better,” a modern kissed country touch on “Trampoline,” and a heart tugging lyric on “He Breaks Things,” but “Unbridled” sees Mullins Owen dip away from her signature fiddle sawing and toe-tapping style to instead lean into a strong, softer paced ballad plucked straight from her own life.

Written by Mullins Owen with Annie Bosko and Jennifer Hanson, the song leans into a waltz styled tempo that skillfully fits itself into the prominent use of keys and strings that soar the background to give this the instrumental touch needed to add a nearly lullaby like feel to a lyric that you can picture Megan singing to her own daughter as she rocks her back to sleep.

A letter from mom to daughter, Mullins Owen strikes all the right chords lyrically as she spells out the different challenges that life will inevitably throw at her, but she more so keeps the focus on the attributes that she hopes her daughter carries with her throughout these storms:

"I hope that you keep that fire untamed, your hopes and your dreams running wild

Hope you’re never afraid to find greener pastures, but remember to tend to your own

By lifting the lyrics straight out of her life as a new young mom, Mullins Owen perfectly hits new parent’s hearts in all he right ways with the emotionally transparent honesty of her vocal, but she also masterfully crafts the lyrics and phrasing in such a way that any parents will be able to relate this to their children of any age as she encourages them to never lose innocence and always do their best.

With “Unbridled,” Megan Mullins Owen continues her trend of kicking off every month for the CCB Nashville label with a strong song that raises the bar to an extremely high level for the rest of the roster to reach for with all their subsequent releases that will follow throughout the month.
