Country music megastar Keith Urban surprisingly released a brand-new track via Capitol Records Nashville on July 8th.  The new tune, titled “Brown Eyes Baby”, was first performed live in concert during the kickoff of his ‘The Speed Of Now Tour’.  Almost immediately, fans were asking if and when the song would be recorded and released.  Now, it is available everywhere for all to enjoy.

While many artists are releasing new music during the summer, most were not expecting Urban to follow suit.  Those were anticipating his tour, which travels across the US through the fall before heading to Australia in the winter, were expecting a “greatest-hits” type setlist.  Now, with the release of “Brown Eyes Baby”, there may be some new tunes thrown into the mix as well.

I can put the sun back in your sunshine

Bring a little love into your late night

Ain’t gotta be nothin’ more than one more drink and maybe

I can take the blue out of your brown eyes baby

Written by Will Bundy, Rodney Clawson, Josh Thompson, and Morgan Wallen, the song tells the tale of a woman riddled with heartbreak and sorrow, but is picking herself up and forcing herself to try to move forward and enjoy a night out.  It’s a tune of internal struggle and regret, while also offering hope and inspiration, coupled with a hint of secret devotion and a potential new love interest.

The lyrics put the listener right in the moment, beautifully crafted to effectively communicate the feelings of both parties involved – the broken-hearted woman and the friend who may want to become more than that.  Urban’s “heart on your sleeve” emotional delivery as always been a fan favorite and something that separates him from so many others in the genre, and his vocal demeanor is on point here.

“Brown Eyes Baby” is not as upbeat as some of Urban’s other songs, and it also doesn’t keep the same beat as some of the other popular releases of the summer thus far.  But it is undoubtedly a hit, one that gets the emotional juices flowing and will be yet another chart-topper in his ever-building historical music catalogue.
