While Taryn Papa may have come into many new homes across the nation as a contestant of season 19 of The Voice in 2020, she is certainly not a newcomer to country music fans who have been following her journey since 2016 when she released her Persuaded EP, and have subsequently watched her rise to prominence amongst the crowded lower Broadway music scene in Nashville playing such renowned stages as Ole Red.

Her latest EP release AWAKE has seen Taryn elevate her songwriting game to new heights as she’s honed in on her pop country branded style, catching an incredible buzz with her completely transparent song “Changed,” the latest single released from the EP.

Though originally released at the end of March, with its lyrical content being focused on falling in love unexpectedly, now feels like a perfect to time to revisit the song as the late summer/early fall wedding season is quickly approaching.

Papa wrote the ultra-personal song after meeting her now fiancé, focused on the unexplainable, excited and anxious feelings she was experiencing of falling in love for the first time. By keeping the song up-tempo, she matches the exciting feelings of the lyrics as she sings us through the first verse speaking straight at the disbelief of who she has become now that she’s met him, openly admitting that she never thought she could miss someone in the next room and that she never thought she’d even feel the way she is so soon.

The second verse, although it does move these new feelings ahead, stays tilted toward the disbelief of them as she sings us through a relatable emotion of how she used to turn away from couples showing PDA, but finds that she’ now part of one of those types of couples herself.

Papa expertly uses the chorus to face the mirror metaphorically, as she happily accepts the fact that she’s completely changed, confessing that she’s never felt the way that she is, that she craves his touch, and while she’s usually not the type to stick around, she’s staying firmly planted right where she’s at in love now.

Taryn Papa has clearly found her uniquely vibey sound and her place to fit in amongst today’s modern country landscape, while more importantly, delivering a song that carries the connectibility factor for the listeners who are feeling that first time falling in love feeling alongside her, but also with those who are fondly looking back with a smile on their face and remembering when they first found that feeling as they rekindle their long-term relationship.
