Though there will always be a heated debate about what is and what isn’t country amongst the different generations of fans, there’s no debate that if you’re looking for a modern era artist that upholds stone country values, then you need to look no further than Jacob Bryant.

His past catalog has already included traditional dripping songs “This Side of Sober,” “Pour Whiskey on My Grave,” “Devil & an Old Six String,” and his most recent radio single, “Amen,” which is still making radio impact as of this writing.

However, he now returns with “Addicted to Heartbreak,” the first new music from Bryant since the release of his Bar Stool Preacher album earlier this year.

Said on his socials to be influenced by Keith Whitley, Hank Williams Jr., and George Jones, the song which is co-written by Bryant with Nick Sizemore and Matthew J. Adkins, offers a slowed down, throwback sound that immediately transports you to Tootsie’s in the 1970’s when you’re drinking away a heartache on a barstool in the middle of the afternoon and a song rains down on you from the stage and immediately makes you look up in realization that you’re not alone in your broken heart.

I met her  in Reno, knew she was no good,” begins Bryant as he then spells out that while he knew she would keep cheating on him and eventually would leave, his addiction to heartbreak kept him staying right there by her side as he confesses in the chorus that he “just can’t be happy ‘til the skies turning grey.”

The second verse sees Bryant shifting gears to squarely focus on the current state of the music industry and how it breaks his traditionally loving heart time after time, as he subtly takes a shot at the modern era when he sings “I can’t take the new sound cause it just ain’t true,” but he then also autobiographically embraces who he is and owns the place where he fits in when he sings of how he clings to the old songs and picks his guitar in efforts to uphold those classic country values.

The fact of the matter is that there’s a place for everybody in the country music landscape right now but knowing your place to fit in is the bulk of the battle. Jacob Bryant, since day one, has fully slid into the more traditional country vibe and delivered songs that boldly share his own life stories very transparently with the listeners which has made him such an endearing artist – he’s done that again with “Addicted to Heartbreak.”
