Molly Lovette has used this past year to really showcase who she is as an all-around artist and songwriter with releases such as the slower paced, heart-tugging “Seasons,” and last summer’s infectious pop country bop “Hey Hey,” the latter which strongly upheld her “country sweetheart” nickname as the playfully fun lyric wrapped perfectly into the melody and allowed her incredible vocal to skillfully hold the flirtatious feel to keep you listening.

She now returns with her ultra-catchy, countrified new single “Birthday Hangover.”

Just four more hours ‘til midnight, I’m a little buzzed not gonna lie,” confesses Molly as she opens the song and immediately sets the tone that sees her counting down until her birthday as the title suggests.

Painting solid pictures so that we as listeners are transported into the bar to hang out with her and her friends as the celebration is in full swing during their libation filled night, Lovette tells through the verses of them dancing along to the sound of steel guitars, her being pulled up on stage by the band as everyone sings out her name, etc.

However, the pure punch of the song comes when she rings out the line, “If I’m gonna be another year older, sure as hell ain’t gonna be sober,” before sliding into the clap-along rhythm of the chorus where she and her friends encourage you to raise your glass and become part of their birthday toast as if you’re sitting at the table with them:

Cheers to a headache in the morning

A red dress stained with Bourbon

I don’t need no confetti or cake

Just a couple bottles of champagne

Free drinks and kissing strangers

I might regret this later

When the sun comes up and the night’s over

Cheers to a birthday hangover.”

Though Molly Lovette already has a very strong catalog of solid songs on her resume, “Birthday Hangover” is the culmination of focused strides in her songwriting prowess that acts as a bold showcase to bringing all her signature feels up a notch, elevating her lyrics to resonate with her twenty-something peers as she opens her next exciting chapter by leaping way ahead on her country music path with a song that fits perfectly into today’s Top 40 country music landscape and will lead her to reach a new level of success as she solidifies the buzz surrounding her.
