As they’ve been doing with consistent precision all year long during the second Friday of the month, CCB Nashville is back at it this week with a brand-new release from the label’s flagship artist Cash Creek as part of their #newmusicfriday initiative.

With a few exceptions, most of songs from Cash Creek throughout the year have featured Kimo Forrest on lead vocals and have kept a focus on incredible love songs such as “You’re All I Wish About,” “Over the Moon,” and an incredible cover of Maggie Rose’s “It’s You.”

“Bumpin’ and Grindin’” takes a hard left turn away from the expected, to deliver a revved-up song that leans into the necessary grit needed to uphold this rock kissed ode to dirt track racin’.

Monty DeVita brings his vocals to the lead position, something we haven’t heard since “The Great Indoors” back in May, and he instantly adds a different flavor to the mix as he takes us to the dirt track, underneath the Saturday night lights as part of car #33’s lap by lap experience.

We metaphorically get to sit in the driver’s seat and view the sprint race through the windshield as DeVita blasts out lines such as:

“He slaps that shift and sends the pedal straight to the floor”

“Gotta keep his mind on staying out of the wall, he ain’t lifting, gonna smoke them all”

“Bumpin’ and a grindin’ on an old dirt track, checkered flags are flying, Lord he ain’t looking back”

However, as much as the song uses terminology commonly associated with hard-nosed racing, Cash Creek also cleverly hits us with quick lines that allows us to get to know the driver on a more personal, connectible level as they share that it’s his one-night claim to fame, that he’s a live action, pistol packin’, round trackin’, son of a gun, etc.

With a fury of guitars dragging us through the bridge, the instrumentation then sweeps away the vocals as they take us inside sharp turns and travel down fast straight aways, shredding us through the out of the song to the finish line.

Racing and country music go hand in hand. Always have and always will. Cash Creek clearly understands that connection and crafts this song in such a way that whether it’s the charge of the melody or the well-crafted lines in the lyrics, they masterfully direct you around the track by providing an adrenaline-soaked energy that makes you feel the rumble of the cars zooming by as the checkered flag rips through the air.
