Megan Mullins Owen has swerved into a few different sounds and styles within the country music realm over her first nine song releases this year as part of CCB Nashville’s #newmusicfridays. However, whether she’s singing about embracing exactly who she is on “One of These Days,” tackling the tough subject of love on “Trampoline,” or making a bold statement on “Good for A Girl,” she’s consistently wrapped her crisp vocal into top-notch lyrics and dripped plenty of fiery fiddle into the instrumentation to retain her defining characteristics as she walks genre lines.

Her brand-new single “I Ain’t Ready To See You Yet,” continues to see her leaning into her signatures while injecting plenty of traditional country moodiness into the melody through its prominent use of fiddle and pedal steel to carry the vibe and wrap it into the lyrics.

The soft cry of the fiddle through the intro immediately sets the tone of the song as a nearly hushed tone in her vocals captures the necessary emotions as she takes us straight into the internal struggle that naturally arrives when you’re falling apart as your relationship stands on its last legs and you try to hold on, while also letting go.

Lamenting that she isn’t ready to see him yet, she admits that there’s too much she can’t forget about what they once had and that she’s not ready to give him up even though there’s a dim chance of them surviving the inevitable heartbreak as their love’s hanging on by a thread.

We also see her battling herself through her own emotions as she pushes into the chorus, transparently revealing the truths of what she’s dealing with inside:

I’ve been going back and forth

Through all the things we said

Now I’m caught between missing you

And wishing we’d never met

With a very well-placed dramatic pause toward the end of the song as the final words are sung, Megan perfectly shifts into the instrumental outro that captures the entire essence of the lyrics and the overall confusion of the mood that she’s just finished spelling out, adding an exclamation point to where words can’t even encapsulate the emotions anymore!

With each song she’s released this year, Megan Mullins Owen proves to be an artist that Nashville completely missed the mark on during her initial artist run. But as they say, their loss is someone else’s gain – kudos to CCB Nashville for giving Megan the proper platform to release her new music, while proudly showcasing an amazing talent find that we get to hear from each new song she releases.
