Since being named winner of Season 17 of The Voice, Jake Hoot has kept very busy, making his way through a crowded country music scene with solid releases that have not only satisfied his fans, but have also seen him continually getting stronger as he’s revealed a few different looks at who he is as an artist, while skillfully keeping his vocals – the attribute that got him here - at the forefront.

After releasing his debut EP Love Out Of Time, Hoot rocked us through the anthem-like “Night Left,” was joined by his wife Brittney on their one-year anniversary gift “Wherever Time Goes,” and hit us with the twang driven, 90’s country splashed toe-tapper “Had It To Lose.”

He now returns with “B4U.”

The song, co-written by Hoot, Grant Vogel and Kylie Sackley, first garnered attention and earned instant buzzworthy credibly when he shared a short clip of it on his socials, essentially making it one of Hoot’s most anticipated releases yet.

Confessing in the opening verse that before she (Brittney) came into his life, there were some good relationships, close calls, and almost maybes. However, just before the chorus strikes, he tells that while each of those past relationships that didn’t work out made him into the man he is today, it wasn’t until he met her that he truly realized what he’d been missing.

Pulling from a clear 90’s influence of groups like Lonestar, Jake expertly builds the proper emotional setup through the verses before hitting a chorus that sees him elevating his voice to a soaring level while praising the way that she took everything he thought made for a good love and showed him what a great love is, admitting:

“So sure I was doing it right, but I had it all wrong”

“There’s a thousand things I swore I thought I knew…Before you”

Hoot then uses the second verse, as well as the bridge, to praise his wife and how she changed everything for him when he sings of how his heart is beating differently now than it ever has before and that she’s the reason he’s complete now.

What I personally love about Jake’s writing on this lyric is how he never bashes the past that came before her, but how he embraces the positives of those who weren’t the one but made an impact on his life so that when he found her, he was ready for the real love that came with it!

He perfectly taps into that falling head over heels in love feeling on “B4U,” as he once again shares a piece of his family’s photo album with us to give him a transparency with the listener that immediately connects with them like a conversation with an old friend.
