After what has seemed like an eternity, Knoxville, TN native Emily Ann Roberts re-emerged earlier this year and is once again putting the country music world on notice.

Her latest release, “The Building”, is a deeply personal song for ‘The Voice’ alum, who is dedicating the tune to her late great grandfather.  It tells the tale of a man whom Roberts never met, a Baptist Church pastor decades ago, detailing a legacy, faith, and devotion that has become nearly unprecedented over the years.

Faith and religion were a huge part of the songstress’s upbringing and remain a constant in her life today, and her ability to convey and interpret her own faith while telling the story of another makes this song a truly special release.

Musically, the song is absolutely stunning.  Roberts’ vocals are spectacularly flawless, with soaring yet controlled vocals being delivered with the adequate amount of subdued passion to perfectly capture the mood and tone of the track’s intended emotional message.

From a lyrical perspective, this song is everything that country music has historically embodied and has been traditionally admired for – its unapologetic honesty and its uncanny ability tell a detailed story in the midst of a few lines.  “The Building” encompasses all of those elements and showcases them in a “front-and-center” delivery, immediately captivating the listener from the opening verse through the chorus.

“I know the stained glass never saved a soul

And these pews ain’t on the roll that’s called up yonder

I know the pulpit’s just a wooden stand

But it’s felt the power of God’s hand

As His glory filled the place with awe and wonder

I know it’s just a building, plain and simple white

But it’s the building where Jesus saved my life”

Emily Ann Roberts gained national notoriety in 2015 when she placed as the runner-up on NBC’s ‘The Voice’.  Since then, she has toured the country playing headlining gigs while opening for the likes of Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton.  Her previous single, “Whole Lotta Little”, was her first sample of new music in two years, tallying 10 million views on TikTok in less than a month after its release.

In addition to the release of “The Building”, Roberts will make her anticipated return to the Grand Ole Opry stage on November 18th, which will serve as one of her last scheduled live appearances of 2022.
