Virginia native Makenzie Phipps continues to put her name at the forefront as one of the more promising young singer-songwriters on the underground independent country music market with the release of her latest single, “Drag”.  The song, centered around the concept of a less-than-ideal relationship to which you cannot let go, is available on all streaming platforms now.

Intertwining musical elements of country and blues, the tune showcases Phipps’ vocal ability which is undeniably gifted, unique and maturely confident.  Written by Cassidy Lynn Alexander, Dan Wilson, and Paul Bogart, “Drag” is a song that is relatable to listeners of all ages, disciplines, and experiences.  The feelings and emotions of a relationship’s end vary from person to person and experience to experience, and thus there are so many different perspectives from which to view the same story.

The notion that a person is aware that a relationship is not ideal or that there is something more to long for, but not being able to separate oneself from that situation, is unfortunately more common than one would think.  This song effectively captures the vibe of those feelings through the lyrics, music, and vocal delivery.

Many music fans discovered Mackenzie from her periodic social media posts of acoustic cover songs.  A recorded cover of Alan Jackson’s “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You” has garnered well over 1 million views and has been shared over 10,000 times.  To date, Phipps’ acoustic videos have been viewed over 14 million times, an incredible feat for an independent artist.

Phipps is writing, recording, releasing, and touring independently and fans have a few chances left to see her before the end of the year, as the songstress has dates scheduled in Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.  From her remarkable covers of “Amazing Grace” and “Travelin’ Soldier” to her previous single “Maybe” and now “Drag”, Makenzie is on the fast track to country music success, demanding attention from the industry through her look, sound, sentiment, and undeniable talent.
