A cornerstone staple of the Nashville music community, Sara Spicer fills her weekly calendar with high profile gigs and stellar writer’s rounds, navigating her way through the scene with impressive performances and highly touted single releases, including “Proud” - the stunning tribute to her mom, which she’s said was written for anyone who’s felt the pain of losing someone.

If you’ve ever caught one of her performances then you’ve witnessed an incredible balance within her set that slides between a wide array of cover songs that scratch the surfaces of her blues, jazz, and country infused influences.

However, her latest single “Love Will Hit You Hard,” sees her leaning into an ultra-moody, pop driven back beat that boldly showcases the exciting direction that her original music is stepping into as she opens her next chapter.

Bet he told you I was crazy…Bet he told you it was my fault,” opens the song as Spicer quickly leads us into the tell-all letter that she’s directed at her ex’s new girlfriend as she then shares the truths of who he is and warns the new girl of what she’s gotten herself into:

“Did he tell you he’s a liar? He will manipulate your heart.”

“He’s a smooth talkin’, make you think he loves you while he’s really walking out.”

“Wish I’d known about the whiskey…the other women on the side.”

A feisty punch in the chorus sees her comparing broken love to a fist though a wall, a chop block to your blindside, etc... and while this theme isn’t necessarily new to country music, Spicer elevates her take on it when she pushes into the bridge and confesses that she knows her warning is falling on deaf ears, giving this a fresh flare that spins into pure frustration that nearly points at herself for not listening to the same advice she’s now trying to give.

Already carrying an anthem like feel to it, Spicer expertly solidifies that aspect of the melody with the 1-2 chop in the guitars as they lead the beat into the final chorus to get your fist pumping along with the empowerment aura, masterfully connecting the newfound redemption as she leaves behind the spite that embeds a broken heart.
