Kenny Chesney’s latest single is not a stadium anthem, it’s not a love song, and it’s not about life on the beach or being the life of the party.  It’s a tune that has long been a favorite of his most devout followers, and one that has always meant a lot to the country music superstar…even more so now.

Having recently shared the news that his beloved rescue dog, Ruby, passed away, Chesney took to social media with an emotional tribute which was concluded with a lyric from “Da Ruba Girl”.

Members of No Shoes Nation, the East Tennessee native’s fan base, have longed for the song to be released and be made available, and now, Kenny is doing so for a very special reason.

Beginning on December 9, all proceeds from purchases of “Da Ruba Girl” on iTunes are being donated to Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

The song, itself, finds Chesney right in his comfort zone and where so many fans fell in love with his music, playing a guitar and singing straight from his heart.  Before the hillbilly rock star days and sold-out stadiums, Kenny was a singer-songwriter, honing his craft and playing emotional and honest songs that were a reflection of his life – past, present and future.  The release of “Da Ruba Girl” comes as a pleasant surprise to fans, but also appears to be as a form of emotional support for Chesney, himself, as well as a tribute.

“You needed her, she needed you

To hold, to help fill a space

Last in line, last cage at the rescue

Was a love that no one could replace

Lying there like a lost spring of pearls

Was Da Ruba Girl”

“They say we rescue them, but I know from experience we’re really the ones who are rescued”, Chesney shared.  “Ruby was everything good, and in her memory, this is her way of continuing to give and bring love where it’s most needed.
