American Idol winner Chayce Beckham has official released his single, “23”, to radio now.  The song, produced by Ross Copperman at SoundFactory Recording Studio, is a personal account that touches on his life story and his past struggles with alcohol.

This song packs an emotional punch and will undoubtedly have a strong effect on a lot of listeners out there.  Alcoholism, unfortunately, is more common than we may like to admit, and it has affected or will affect millions of people, either directly or indirectly.

Specifically, Chayce tells a self-loathing and regrettable account of his past struggles with alcohol and how his decisions and behaviors cost him a long-term relationship.  It’s a song that can be hard to hear and difficult to admit, but it is utterly relatable to a lot of us.  And he is able to sing the profound lyrics with such raw emotion, which puts the end result over the top.

“Now I’m 23

And there ain’t nobody who can drink like me

Soon I’ll be 24

And the Lord knows that I can’t drink no more

I know I should’ve taken it slow

It’s not the way that my life goes

Now I know

When your passed out on the floor”

Over the years of American Idol, we have all fallen victim to the assumption that once the show is over, the top contestants become manufactured artists with pre-determined releases and songs that have been specifically written for them and hand-picked without much discretion.  But then an artist comes along like Chayce Beckham who has a past, a story, and an undeniable talent as a singer, songwriter, and performer.

And while for some, the formal release to radio of “23” may not serve as new music, for the country music masses, this may be a first introduction to one of the more underlying talents the genre has seen in quite some time.  Chayce Beckham has some stories to tell us, and we can’t wait to see where his music career takes him and his listeners next.
