Nashville, TN has been known as one of the most famous music towns in the country, if not the world, for years.  The narrative of Music City is the notion that an unknown singer-songwriter with undeniable talent can be discovered by playing the famous bars and honkytonks on Broadway.

Over the past decade, however, there has been some shade cast on the idea that top-notch industry reps scan the Broadway bars for undiscovered talent.  For some artists, though, performing on one of the most famous live music stretches in the country isn’t just about exposure…it’s about honing their craft, developing their songwriting, singing, and performing ability, gaining the experience and confidence to put their best foot forward.

For those who have not “met” North Dakota natives Tigirlily Gold, they are a prime example of an incredibly talented tandem with the energy and motivation to take them to wherever they want to go.  Their latest single, “Shoot Tequila”, available now via Monument Records, is a fun, free-spirited party anthem perfect for a night out on the town.

Written by sisters Kendra and Krista Slaubaugh along with Kevin Griffin and David Mescon, the tune was born and bred as a result of the ladies’ time spent on Broadway.  As the sisters admit, they have been playing in bars and honkytonks since before they could legally drink alcohol, but having played four hour sets multiple times a week for tourists and music fans from across the country had an effect on the ladies’ music as well as their approach to songwriting and performing.

“Shoot Tequila” centers around the idea of being involved in a back-and-forth relationship that most likely needs to end, but due to extenuating circumstances, continues to drag on.  Paired with the complicated repercussions of letting go is the temptation manifested during a night of tequila shots. 

This is a fun song, no doubt.  And Kendra and Krista are fun to listen to and fun to watch.  Their voices blend flawlessly and effortlessly, and the clever, witty lyrics keep the listener guessing what will happen next through each verse and chorus.

Having played the song for a few months in Nashville at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row and beyond, the ladies have received a tremendous response from fans, further enticing them to release the song as a single.  It serves as the first song from their upcoming EP, ‘Blonde’. 

Tigirlily Gold first introduced themselves to the larger country music world with previous singles “My Thang” and “Somebody Does”.  This duo is on fire right now, with “Shoot Tequila” garnering over 7 million views on TikTok as they are wrapping up their 23-stop tour and are also putting the final touches on the ‘Blonde’ EP.
