Since making the move from his native Colorado to Nashville, TN, country crooner Johnny Day has spent years honing his craft as a singer, songwriter, and gifted guitar player, and he continues to establish himself as a bright start on the up-coming-coming circuit.

His latest release, “Better Part”, puts his songwriting and vocal ability in the spotlight as he professes his love for that special person in his life.

Whereas previous releases, including “All The Good Ones Do” and “Every Beer, Every Bar” with Zack Dyer, incorporate blended elements of rock, pop, and even blues, to create a truly unique sound through a steady catchy beat, “Better Part” is a stripped down, simplistic approach to songwriting.  The lyric-focused number imbeds itself in the listener, hanging on every line as he sings a beautifully-crafted poetic antidote of love.

“No one knows me better

It’s you and me running forever

Chasing it down together wherever

You’re my best friend

You go to my last first kiss to come home to

You’re everything that’s good in me

You’ll always be the better part of me”

The lyrics are relatable, down-to-earth, and well-placed, and Day delivers them with the candor, honesty, and emotion that perfectly encompass the mood of a love story put to music.

This is one of those songs that you could imagine him sitting at home with his significant other and simply picking up his guitar and singing verse to chorus, straight from the heart. In contrast to all of the available instrumentation and production ability in today’s music world, it is incredibly refreshing at times to strip all that away to reveal a singer’s thoughts being professed with nothing more than his voice and a guitar. Day shines on this track, from start to finish.

Johnny has referenced Keith Urban, Brent Mason, and Shania Twain as some of his biggest musical influences, and elements of their songwriting approaches have certainly shown through in his songwriting efforts to date.  With each release, we are learning about this Colorado native’s ability, talent, and drive, and the future is certainly bright and expectations are high for future releases.
