Australia has always been one of the hotbeds for cutting edge, modern country music, walking its core style seamlessly along the lines of the current norm that’s happening stateside.

Since releasing his debut single “On Your Mind” in 2019, Jake Davey has been a shining example of this as he’s carved out his niche in a crowded country music scene to become a buzzed about artist with each subsequent release.

Though his resume already reads long with milestones, including spots at major festivals, signing his first-ever publishing deal, becoming a Toyota Star Maker top 10 finalist, and 1.3 million streams across digital platforms, it’s a bold declaration to say that he’s just getting started…but in 2023, Jake Davey is just getting started!

He kicks off the new year with “Count On Country Music.”

Co-written by Davey, Chris Yurchuck, and David Borys, this ode to everyone’s favorite genre of music leans into an ultra-modern vibe that’s full of a catchiness that floats on the breeze of a summery groove to pull the listener into the sway along melody and immediately get you singing along.

Running through the different sure bet scenarios that you can count on; he sings us through the opening verse with lines such as:

“You can count on the man to take too much of your take home pay”

“You can count on being hung up on the one that got away”

But these lines are simply put in place so that when he punches into the chorus the weight of country music’s impact is felt that much stronger as he sings of needing some crank it up in your speakers, words that sound a little sweeter for the one that set your heart on fire, etc… before landing at the hook that tells of how good ‘ol country music is the one thing you can count on most.

Further describing how country music will hit you, he returns to list like fashion in the second verse as he explains that it’ll remind you that you’re not alone, it provides the soundtrack to your escape, and it gets you in the groove.

The instrumental pull back into clap along moment of the final chorus injects the song with a perfect audience participation moment that immediately has you envisioning a packed house singing along and dancing with the rhythm of the melody.

Though Jake Davey has already made tremendous strides over the past few years, with the promise of his debut EP coming out later this year and “Count on a Country Song” providing a first strike with a song that stays with you long after its final note is played, he expertly heightens the anticipation for things still to come.
