Late last year, we at Today’s Country Magazine had the privilege of attending Makayla Lynn’s show at The Basement here in Nashville.  Signed by Dreamlined Entertainment Group, the Canadian born singer-songwriter wowed the audience with her invocative storytelling, impressive vocal prowess, and stage command.  She also let the audience in on a secret…that she had been in the studio working on brand new music.

Flash forward to 2023, and here we are…Makayla has released a brand new tune.  “If I Want To” is available everywhere now.

The song finds the songstress in her comfort zone…a marriage between blues and country.  Her voice naturally lends itself to the blues, while her prowess and ability to adapt to different elements from varying influences invites easy transitions throughout this track.  This is a groovy, mid-tempo tune to which we can all sway, toe-tap and dance. 

Having shared that she had been working with famed producer Keith Stegall and his daughter Jen on the new music, Makayla is now sharing the product of the collaboration…and the results are extraordinary.

This is cleverly crafted, an artistically generated appreciation of how to respectively blur the lines of musical genres to truly create a unique sound using varying accompaniments, arrangements, and God-given ability.  Additionally, she has found her niche within the general account of the musical spectrum as well, incorporating elements of traditional blues and country with a modern vibe and youthful approach to appeal and engage fans of all ages and musical disciplines. 

With this being her first release since “Unbroken Homes” in 2021, Lynn has quickly reminded us why she has been regarded as a new artist to watch by Rolling Stone Magazine and found her way to the top spot on CMT’s 12 Pack Countdown.  With an incredible range of talent and a collection of new music under her belt, this will be the first of many times we will be hearing from this talented songstress in 2023.  Stay tuned!
