CODY COZZ
"Wanna Be That Guy"
Grindstone Recordings
Pueblo, CO native Cody Cozz is back with his latest single, furthering his reputation as a bright young singer-songwriter on the country music scene.
“Wanna Be That Guy” was released February 24th, and is available on all streaming platforms now.
Written by Craig Campbell, Jason Matthews, and Joel Shewmake, this is a song that centers around an all-too-familiar feeling that a lot of us have felt at one point or another. The idea of meeting and chasing the person of your dreams in hopes that he/she will one day see you the way you see him/her is something that romance stories and fairy tales are made of, and, as Cody admits, it’s a story we all hope to live one day.
“I think it’s gonna be one that hits the audience right in the sweet spot and resonate lyrically”, he says.
Signed to Campbell’s Grindstone Recordings label, Cozz has clearly learned a lot from his label head, who also produced “Wanna Be That Guy”. He is a crooner and a singer-songwriter with a guitar in his hand at heart, but his raw vocal ability and delivery are not to be overlooked. This guy can sing, and his prowess, confidence and willingness to extend himself beyond his comfort zone seem to improve with every release.
Lyrically, this is a beautiful love song from a man to a woman, but as is the case with any well-crafted tune, it can be attributed and applied to many different people in varying situations. It is one to which we can all relate, and the words are displayed in a conversational manner that captive the listener.
“You need a guy holdin’ you tight
You know the type that treats you like the queen you are
The kind that won’t break your heart
You need a man that’ll stand up to the world and fight for you girl for the rest of his life baby
I wanna be that guy”
This follows his previous releases, the inspirational track “On My Way” and uplifting “Right On Time”, both of which garnered high praise by fans, industry reps and media alike.
Cody will surely continue to garner praise form his live performances on the road as well, as he kicked off a run with Travis Denning on February 25th. Initially slated as a 14 date trek, more shows are expected to be announced soon, stretching through the spring and potentially into the summer.
