Since blasting onto the scene with his independent album Born for This, Chase Matthew has seen his status level elevate with each subsequent release.

“She Loves Jesus” and “Love You Again” both catapulted the hottest rising star on today’s country music circuit to substantial radio play, sold out headlining dates, and a recently announced debut on the hallowed stage of the Grand Ole Opry (March 14, 2023).

Though not one to ever rest on a song for much too long, and to always satisfy the high demand of his diehard fanbase, he continues to strike while the proverbial iron’s hot as he now follows up his surging single “The Way I Am” with his brand-new release, “Hey Montana.”

Nashville has a funny way of introducing you to people who impact your life for a moment, and while some stay in town, a lot will end up returning to their home state after only a short stay. That’s exactly where we find Matthew at during this soft mid-tempo, which sees him taking us straight into a phone call scenario with his one who got away, aptly nicknamed “Montana.”

The natural, haven’t talked to you in a while small talk opens the song as Chase asks the typical questions of how’s it been since you left Tennessee, how the weather is in Montana, how’s her family, etc.

However, you sense a missing you quiver in the tone of his voice that signals there’s much more weight to this phone call as he quickly shifts the conversation to his deeper feelings of trying to shake their memories, while telling of how the pictures he keeps seeing on socials where she’s looking so happy are creating a flurry of emotions within him.

Punching into his confusing feelings that balance somewhere between happy for her and sad for him, he transparently hits the chorus:

“I just called to say I miss you

And I hope you’re doing fine

I know I’m probably not on yours

But you’re steady on my mind

I hope you wrote that book and that thing took off

From there to Alabama

And I hope God gives you all you ever wanted

While you’re up there in Montana.”

In one final yearning to her before they end their call, Matthew completely elevates the song in its final lines when he leaves it on the table that if it ever turns out Montana is not where she wants to be, then the door is open for her to come back to Tennessee, and more importantly to him.

Chase Matthew continues to roll out solid song after solid song with “Hey Montana” simply being the next in line. The buzz that’s surrounding him continues to swirl with each new release, but it’s always getting louder as he impressively gains even more traction and steps to new heights each time out.
