With her recent releases, “What’s It Gonna Take,” “Dropped,” and “If You Had a Heart,” we saw country songstress Jillian Cardarelli really exploring within the boundaries of her signature style to incorporate touches of jazz, blues, and elements of pop.

As she now kicks off 2023 with her brand-new single “Country Side,” we see her returning to her core country style to deliver a song that’s sure to strike your country lovin’ heart no matter where your map dot is.

Playing off the idea that “country” is a feeling that runs inside of our being rather than which side of the Mason-Dixon line you reside, Jillian embraces the truth that all of us carry a little small-town country within who we are.

…before she then describes the morals and values wrapped into what it means to be living the country lifestyle throughout the remainder of the song; hard work, faith, holding tightly to family traditions, letting loose on Friday nights while churchin’ on Sunday, etc..

If you’re still not convinced that you have a country side, she expertly uses the chorus to not only namecheck several popular country songs, but to convincingly prove to you that you are:

“If you wore a barbeque-stained t-shirt underneath a blue clear sky

If you know every single word to “Thunder Rolls” and “Mama Tried”

If you bless the broken road, drinks in the air singing “Summertime”

Then you got, you got a country side.” 

However, this namechecking of song titles isn’t only reserved for the chorus, but it runs prevalent throughout the entire song with 15 being named, providing a clever relisten factor that will have you trying to see if you can spot them all.

Jillian Cardarelli’s voice wraps around you like a summer day in the country as you sit on the front porch swing with a big ‘ol glass of sweet tea and reminisce on how good you got it. With the promise of big things still on the near horizon, though her past is already rich with tremendous accolades if “Country Side” is the hint of what her next chapter holds than 2023 becomes the year that makes Jillian Cardarelli a buzzed about artist and one to watch!
