Whenever an artist is trying to stamp down their place on the overcrowded country music scene, while there’s no specific blueprint to follow, solid song release after solid song release is a surefire way to garner substantial attention.

Matthew Wayne is the perfect example of owning this idea.

Releasing 6 songs in the past 10 months has earned him over half a million streams and featured listings on Spotify playlists, including "Fresh Finds Country" and "New Music Friday Country," as well as rave reviews on his radio-ready “Reckless,” an anathematic song that’s been hailed as toe-tapping, head-bopping, and full of upbeat, catchy beats, melodies, and riffs.

Wayne now returns with the next glimpse into his forthcoming debut project through his latest single, “Wrong Side Of The Bed.”

Co-written by De'Leah Shane, Lance Miller, Nate Kenyon, and Sara Brice, the slower paced, tug-at-your heart song leans on traditional feels through dominating steel guitars to surround Wayne’s emotionally charged vocal as he pushes through the missing what we used to have lyric.

Painting the picture of a dreary day as one that is seeing pouring rain and grey skies, perfectly sets the overall vibe of the scene as he speaks directly to a comparison between a broken heart with that of a living nightmare, singing in the chorus:

“Cause I woke up on the wrong side of the bed

Reckon I rolled over in the middle of the night I guess

Second nature, half a week, and craving her head on my chest

Forgetting all about a love, that empty space she left

When I woke up on the wrong side of bed.”

He wraps a tone of sadness through the depression that naturally sets in during the aftermath of a breakup, confessing that he’s afraid to go back to sleep because waking up is always toughest after vividly dreaming of her and when everything was perfect between them.

There are a lot of country songs with subject matter that strike into these types of feelings, so to create something within that familiarity that still offers a different view is impressive to say the least.

Expertly relying on an overall cry of instrumentation in a sad country atmosphere works to enhance the gut punch as Wayne hits emotional strides with his voice to step forward to his next chapter, masterfully hyping his forthcoming project through yet another solid release.
