Though budding country songstress Charly Reynolds currently finds herself still on vocal rest, her choices for which songs to release during this time are not only perfect selections that are uber relatable to her current situation, but they’ve also struck the heart chords of the listener.

Her last song, “Out of My Hands,” was essentially about dealing with the aftermath of a broken heart, but also carried an underlying focus of accepting and trusting God’s great plan over our own.

She now returns with “One Day At A Time.”

The song, co-written by Charly and Lauren McLamb, leans against a comforting pace wrapped within a mid-tempo melody that allows Reynolds to push her voice into the lyrics as she transparently opens her diary through the speakers like she’s talking to an old friend.

There’s anxiousness in the vulnerability that she gives us during the opening verse as we find her battling comparatives between where she’s at her life and where her peers are, lamenting that she thought she’d be married by now with two kids and big ‘ol house, and that she’d have more money and less doubts.

However, she masterfully doesn’t stay stuck in this down gear, but rather injects pure optimism through the chorus as we see her taking things one small step at a time and accepting that where she’s at is exactly where she’s meant to be:

“We’re all saddled up in this pony show

Trying to make the ducks in a row

Too busy trying to make a living

Forgetting to make a life

I’ve come a long way down the road

Running on empty nowhere close

I don’t know where but I’m getting there

One day at a time”

The second verse then sees her crank deeper into that optimistic approach as she reminds herself that the little girl who she once was would’ve given anything to be standing where she’s at today.

In many ways, this is an open letter to herself and her current situation, but it’s also one that encouragingly helps the listener stay grounded. Those two elements blending are perfect recipes for success, and there’s no doubt that when she gets back at it after this temporary pause, Charly Reynolds will pop into the next chapter of her career and elevate to the next level because of these perfectly connectible song releases.
