While “Lead Me On,” “Heaven On Dirt,” and “Whiskey Can’t” provided a very strong foundation, singer/songwriter Teddy Robb has really surged since going the independent route, challenging himself to release songs that make tremendous impact upon first listen.

Following the very well received “Pretty Things” and “Stay Single,” Robb now continues to open this exciting new chapter by exploring the true art of crafting the perfect song by pulling from his own life experience on his newest release, “Question the Universe.”

Inspired by a chance meetup at a local bar with a girl who he instantly connected with that was unfortunately leaving for Los Angeles just 10 days later, left him with an array of emotions that had him wondering why they even had to meet.

Perfectly placing the naturally subtle rasp of his voice into heart tugging lyrics, enhancing the confusion within them, Teddy openly tells the story of that first night together and the vibes that they both felt as they talked all night long about love and life.

Continuing to tell their 10-day story in the second verse, he confesses of how he broke all the rules by calling her three times a day and telling her the way that she was making him feel through his failed efforts to keep her from leaving.

However, as Robb so often does with his incredible craftsmanship, the chorus completely elevates the hurt that he’s feeling inside the confusing emotional juxtaposition of having to let her go while his heart is falling for her, softly pounding out his frustration through his pleading cry to God:

“The right person, wrong time

She’s perfect, God why’d you have to go and do me so dirty like that

Give me everything I want and nothin’ I could have

Right lover, wrong time

I wanna hold her but somehow, she’s leaving in the morning

Someone got to her first, and shit like this make me question the universe”

Whenever a songwriter can pull straight from their own life, they immediately embed a song with a raw honesty factor that makes it resonate that much more with the listener who is experiencing the same feelings.

Teddy Robb has always had a keen knack for doing just that, and he continues to do it with “Question the Universe,” utilizing his vocals to hold tight to the storytelling aspect of the lyric, while perfectly encompassing the emotional toll that this wound is taking.
