With her last single “It’s A Boy,” neo-traditionalist Jenny Tolman transparently brought a snapshot of her real life into her artform through an ultra-personal song that was inspired by her own journey to becoming a first-time mother.

After naturally taking some time away at the start of this year to be with her family of three, Tolman now returns with a fresh, honky-tonk pep to her step on her sassy new single, “Right Back.”

As an insatiable two-step flare pours out the instrumentation and irresistibly pulls you to a Friday night dancehall floor, Jenny slides into the character role as the female who is tired of being overlooked and ignored within her current relationship and has reached a breaking point while standing on the edge of taking back her freedom.

Batting her eyes through a half smile that wraps around her pretending acts of caring, she asks, “Who’s playing? What’s the score?” during the songs the opening lines while setting the overall scene that’s about to unfold when she white lie tells him that they’re out of milk, slyly stating that she’ll be right back because she needs to run to the store….and since she’s already out:

“As long as I’m out I think I’ll take a drive

Cross right over that county line

Point your old rust bucket toward the setting sun”

Imagining then all the different places that her newfound freedom could take her, she enthusiastically runs through a map dot listing while taking precise moments to throw slight digs toward him such as, “Knowing you, you won’t even know I’m gone.”

“Might take a detour after Tupelo, swing on down to Mexico”

“Take the deed to the house out to Vegas and bet it all away”

“Might jet off out to Paris”

Swerving away the worn out and overdone women scorned feels that are prevalent in the current landscape of country music, Tolman expertly crafts a song that’s not fueled out of a place of spite or a done me wrong/out for revenge type of tune, but rather one that perfectly encompasses the over it and I’m done feeling to refreshingly provide a female anthem that is fun and gets your boot heels clicking while carrying a very strong message and unapologetic encouragement to leave behind what’s no good for you.
