With a string of EP’s already under their belt, Oklahoma based husband and wife duo Ragland (Autumn Ragland and Sam Cox) have been able to catch the attention of the Texas music scene with three straight Top 40 singles on the Texas Regional Report, while their most current single “On Fire” is already climbing towards notching them another.

The single, taken from their ambitious 20-song/4-part sophomore album More Like A Melody, features Mike McClure (The Great Divide/Mike McClure Band) and perfectly uses a softer melody to allow Autumn Ragland’s vocals to carry the vulnerability of the lyrics.

Potentially progressing forward in a relationship is what has our narrator anxiously questioning the stability and validity of it, before making the full-on leap ahead into their next chapter.

While there are many songs out there of a subject matter similar to this, Ragland is very unique in their lyrical approach which helps make this stand out. These aren’t your run of the mill questions being asked, but something much more poetic that hold a different depth:

“When every record’s broken, will you still leave me hoping I’ll be number one?”

“If rainbows weren’t a promise and rain just kept on falling, would you sail my way?”

“Would we build a boat together, keep an eye on the weather, wait for things to change?”

With Ragland already having achieved some chart success with “On Fire,” it’s pretty safe to say that they are lining up for their next Top 40. However, it’s their incredible ability to bring together their most powerful instruments so that they perfectly capture the vulnerable aspects of this song that will make it connect with the listener.
