CAITLYNNE CURTIS - You Were Right - Outlaws & Angels/ONErpm

As Caitlynne Curtis continues to win fans through her supporting role on Jelly Roll’s Backroad Baptism Tour, her shift from pop to country has been completely flawless with hot single releases “Where You Left Off,” and the ultra-addictive, inspirational anthem of overcoming, “Been Through Hell.”

She now delivers her brand-new single, “You Were Right.”

The self-penned track carries a transparent vulnerability as the simplicity of the piano outlines the traditional use of steel guitar while the amazing, powerhouse range of Curtis is on full display as she moves her voice through a sea of emotions, tugging heartstrings of the listener with every next line.

By nearly whispering the opening lines of the song, Caitlynne gives off an air of disappointment in herself as she apologizes, “I’m sorry for all those times when I let my stupid heart broke heart fight,” setting in motion the regret-fueled, self-examination of her own shortcomings being the direct cause for the relationships demise.

Very clever lines that deny any cliché phrasing poetically describe the hurts, pains, and knowing that the past can’t be altered, such as when she comparatively sings of the lasting pains she caused by her choice of words; “All the bullet holes I made on the whiskey nights.”

However, there’s also some redemption in facing your own mirror which “You Were Right” holds strongly to as she sings with brutal honesty of how he deserved better than her and that she’ll take all the blame, before allowing her voice to soar in the chorus when she adds an exclamation point, singing:

“I could blame it on the liquor

I could blame it on my ex

I could lie and say you didn’t love me like you did

But you were right, you didn’t deserve any of this”

Caitlynne Curtis unveils another signature layer of what she’s bringing to the country music table with each new song. But her amazing trick to captivating the listener’s attention arises in the realness of each lyric, the emotion of every feeling, and the precise place that Curtis decides to open her diary to as she lets us peek inside.

Each song carries a relatable truth that’s not only endearing, but that reaches its target demographic as it wraps around you like a warm embrace from a treasured friend who’s giving you a shoulder to lean on, expertly solidifying Caitlynne Curtis as a buzzed about artist to watch.
