BELLES + HALEY MAE CAMPBELL- BYOB - Independent Release
As Belles continues pouring out new music, she’s establishing herself as an independent artist to watch by walking the fine line between pop and country while never fully committing to one genre or the other, intriguingly providing perfect balance within cross-over territory.
Following her 6-song EP The Way You Break A Heart with very well received singles “Girl Crazy,” “Break Up With Your Ex,” and “Loving You Feels Like,” this year has already been hot for her as she now teams with fast rising starlet Haley Mae Campbell to further amp the buzz with “B.Y.O.B.”
Released just days before kicking off her ‘Wildflower Country Tour,’ the song holds tightly to her pop country tinge and drips with a bless your heart warning at the first timer in attendance at her house party who has come equipped with an overly flirtatious eye.
Smiling through a gritting of her teeth to begin a conversation between her and this friend of a friend, she immediately lays out the ground rule that “you can drink as much as you wanna as long as you don’t mix it with drama,” before striking her voice in crisp harmony with Campbell’s throughout the chorus to elevate the strongest of the house party rules:
“B.Y.O.B., I know you don’t know me
But I’m watching you watching him across the room
Honey, that’s one thing you shouldn’t do
Cause its B.Y.O.B, he’s my one and only
If you’re gonna spend Friday night hanging round here
Girl, you can drink my beer
But bring your own boy”
Campbell for her role in this true duet, commands the second verse with somewhat of an understanding that initially sees her giving the girl in question the benefit of the doubt, while also staking claim to her territory through the next bold warning, “just cause you walked in that door don’t mean that’s what’s mine is yours!”
With the bridge sternly reminding the flirty girl that there’s plenty of other guys around town to choose, the theme of the song sews together snuggly with its final words of advice to look elsewhere before coming back around.
Belles always has an irresistible knack for writing ultra-catchy songs and by enlisting the equally as crafty Haley Mae Campbell, she not only heightens her buzz that much more but flawlessly blends two of the hottest independents on the circuit today in a 3-minute highlight of their songwriting prowess, vocal strength, and ability to craft a song that strikes relatable chords with their intended demographic.
