COREY KENT - You Know - RCA Records Nashville

Although “Wild As Her” quickly brought Corey Kent into the national spotlight and made him a household name as one of country music’s brightest new talents, he’s since continued to elevate his status with fan favorites “Man of the House” and “How You Know You Made It,” while earning heavy rotation and solid chart position with his current single “Something’s Gotta Give.”

Hot off the wild success of his debut album Blacktop, which features all those songs mentioned above, he now offers a flash of his next chapter with his latest song share, “You Know.”

The song, which is written about his wife and their relationship story, sees Kent using the built-in rasp of his voice to perfectly encompass the heartfelt admiration of the lyrics as each verse runs through a list of the idiosyncrasies that only he knows about her:

“I know when you shoot tequila, you cut it with a slice of orange”

“I know you hate the sound of the thunder and I know you hate sleeping alone”

"I know you call your mom on Sunday’s; I know you love New York when it snows”

However, when he drops in the line, “I know I’ve never felt this way about nobody else,” he expertly flips the script to confess how she’s making him feel, providing the perfect lead to the chorus where he reassures her that he knows she’s the one:

“You know how to get this heartbeat racing

You know how to drive me wild

You know when we kiss it’s electric baby

And know I can’t resist your smile

I mean we’re already spending all our time together

Maybe we should let the good times roll

I ain’t sayin’ that we gotta tie it down forever

I’m just saying when you know you know

And I know!”

By wrapping the lyrics around acoustic instrumentation, he gives this song an incredibly Nashville vibe that makes us feel like we’re sitting inside a quiet listening room and hearing it played when it’s still in its infancy, giving us an aura that allows us as the listener to be in on something special as it unfolds before our ears.

Corey Kent has mostly carried a bit of an edge to his mainstream song choices, and they’ve certainly done him quite well, but this turn into the softer side as he previews things to come unveils a deeper layer to his craft as he brings heartfelt transparency to a lyric that seemingly opens his photo album as he invites us to flip through the pages of it with him while he relives each snapshot memory.
