CHRIS YOUNG - Double Down - RCA Records Nashville

Following what can only be described as tumultuous week for country superstar Chris Young, he momentarily diverted from the marketing plans of his forthcoming album, Young Love & Saturday Nights, to thank his fans for their overwhelming support through the surprise release of the brand-new track “Double Down.”

The song, co-written by Monty Criswell, Derek George, and Tyler Reeve, taps into a swampy grit that immediately gets you boot heel stomping with its insatiable rhythm as Young brings the richness of his voice into what is nothing short of a celebratory toast to a night out on the town.

Hey, bartender, get us there fast, pour a little more in that whiskey glass,” he engages through the opening line as he cleverly juxtapositions the good time feel of the night ahead for he and his best friends against several references to a poker hand, relaying that they’re about to go all in, that he’s gonna lay down all his cards on the pretty little thing at the bar,  etc.

Sliding into the sway along, hip popping groove of the anthemic like chorus, Young slaps us straight into the honky-tonking atmosphere one drink after the other:

“Double down on a good time

Paint the town, talkin' real bright

Neon redneck, head bobbin' to the hell yeah, honky-tonk sound

Get a little loud, stomp your boot heels

Talkin' plowed like a cornfield

Two-steppin' shuffle, thumb on your buckle

Raisin' up trouble

There goes another double down”

By shrugging his shoulders to the fact that while they all know they oughta go home, they’re having way too much fun to slow it down now, he perfectly captures the essence of the Lower Broadway vibe, easily connecting with the party going crowd that inhibits Nashville on any given weekend.

Steadily reaching a heightened anticipation for his upcoming album with the few teasers he’s already presented – “Looking For You, “ “All Dogs Go To Heaven,” “Young Love & Saturday Nights” and “Right Now” – with the gratitude laced reasoning behind the unplanned offering of “Double Down,” the buzz has now craftily moved the needle another notch and further stamped his mark on what is sure to be one of the most well-received albums this spring.
