BRANTLEY GILBERT - Off The Rails - The Valory Music Co.

Though Brantley Gilbert has certainly shown very strong abilities to tug heartstrings throughout his career with songs such as “Heaven By Then,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” or “What Happens In A Small Town,” at the core of who he is sits familiarity within his outlaw branded style that toes the lines of country and rock ala songs such as “Kick It In The Sticks,” “Bottoms Up,” or “The Weekend.”

With what is not only a preview of his highly anticipated forthcoming project, but also the namesake of his headlining tour, “Off The Rails” is definitely a snapshot of the latter.

The song, written by Gilbert, Brandon Day, Brian Davis, Brock Berryhill, Chase McGill, Josh Phillips, Michael Ray, and Taylor Phillips, carries the perfect grind from the first strike of its chunky, southern rock infused guitar lick as the rawness of his signature, rough around the edge vocal begins to lace the melody.

Comparatively pulling from the classic theme of banditos heisting a moving train, while intriguingly parlaying it against the type of party song that is a common centerpiece to Gilbert’s catalog, he immediately engages the listener on a “ride you won’t forget,” namechecking the outlaw branded country that’s paved his path while rollicking to the high-octane chorus:

“Run it off the rails, kick it into four-wheel

Set it on fire, smoke it like a shine still

Coal rolling, you know it, we're banging hells bells

Twin stacking, we back and we yelling, "Hell yeah"

Hell nah, baby, ain't no slowing down

They gonna call the law, then they better do it now

Yeah, all aboard, this crazy train's twelve

Tonight, we gonna run it off the rails”

Exclaiming in the second verse that this is a hold up, while then inducing another dose of rowdy encouragement, “y’all hold up all them drinks,” the song gets drenched in an invitingly addictive party anthem atmosphere.

While “Off The Rails” isn’t anything extremely new to Gilbert’s repertoire, it is an unbridled showcase of an artist absolutely understanding his wheelhouse and delivering within it to the highest degree, while expertly igniting the spark of outlaw edge that speaks directly to the entire BG Nation to get them singing along as they bang their heads and raise a red Solo cup.
