HALEY MAE CAMPBELL - 8th Day - Independent Release
When we caught Haley Mae Campbell at the Opry Plaza last summer, while some of her bigger songs such as “Thank You Card” and “Never Been in Love” certainly went over very well, when she pulled out her then new song, “8th Day,” she garnered the full attention of the gathering Opry goers as she enthusiastically rose the banner for country music.
Now, with its official release as her next single, Campbell is primed to elevate to even greater heights as she moves her career to a level of intrigue over a 3-minute snapshot of her songwriting prowess and keen ability to weave the conviction of her vocal through a memorable lyric that grips the country music faithful and has them fist bumping the big man upstairs for his hand on creating the music they love.
Wrapped around an additively catchy melody, she pulls ideals from the book of Genesis while offering rightful praise toward all the good that God had already done in those first seven days, tallying that he was off to a pretty good start when he made day and night, probably didn’t get much sleep after making the seven seas, and definitely took a break after creating man and woman.
But with an asterisk added to those 7-day creations, Campbell declares that there was still then the 8th day where He made his best creation yet…country music! Cleverly describing the different aspects that He pulled together to give definition to the genre, she strikes the chorus with an anthem like feature that immediately has you raising your red Solo cup and singing along:
“Then he took a banjo, little bit of fiddle
Took a 4x4 put it out in the middle of nowhere
Where the backroads lead right to the stars
Threw in some whiskey and a few broken hearts
Cut a hole in an old oak tree
Then he spoke the truth over 6 gold strings
No doubt that he knew what he was doing
On the 8th day God made country music”
A spot check to Charlie Daniels in the second verse, “Kicked the devil out of heaven that’s how he wound up in Georgia (That’s right),” and an arms raised Hallelujah moment through the bridge, both expertly outline the fact that every time we listen to country music we need to be throwing a thank you to the Good Lord above for creating what He knew our souls needed.
Though Haley has been very precise in her song choices thus far, “8th Day” is a resonating tune that absolutely deserves this release. There’s no doubt that the doors are about to fly wide open for Haley Mae Campbell with this single, so crank it up and discover country music’s next big thing.
