Earlier this year when Savannah Rae delivered her single “Soft Place To Land,” she quickly introduced the country music faithful to her 90’s inspired country roots and decisively catchy, Texas tilted influences.

The San Antonio native now returns with “Typical Texas Girl,” and with it, she further stamps down her signature sound while offering an autobiographical lyric that allows us to clearly understand who the person is behind the song on a much different level.

Written with Pam Tillis and Britton Cameron, the up-tempo catchiness of the built for a Texas dancehall melody instantly gets your toes tapping along with it, while Savannah Rae pulls us through the first verse to the punch of the chorus on the back of the line, “there’s some things you need to know about a typical Texas girl.”

The chorus, and the remainder of the song, then sings us through a list of explanations of what all makes up a typical Texas girl:

“My heart belongs where I come from.”

“We go big or we go home.”

“My brain is bigger than my hair.”

“My sugar’s laced with T-N-T.”

“I’m country strong and proud to be.”

There isn’t any country music blueprint for a new artist to follow for what will or what won’t lead to success. However, a big part of solidifying a solid fan base is how you use your songs to allow the listener to get to know who you are so they can relate to you. Savannah Rae has accomplished that with “Typical Texas Girl,” and with the tease of more song releases already scheduled for this year, we suspect that she will strongly continue to connect with that audience as she carves out her place amongst a crowded Texas country music scene.
