LECADE - You Get Me - Big Machine Records
As the country music genre continues to evolve, the necessity for an artist to take extended risks and try something fresh within their signature sound becomes the prevalent factor for drawing the dividing line between the ambitious next big thing and those who will fall to the wayside by staying too comfortable.
Big Machine Records recording artist LECADE is certainly proving to be ambitious as he continually builds new layers of his ultra-modern feels with each next release, unapologetically bending genre lines in a perfect marriage of pop country flavor and hip-hop vibes.
Having already gained an incredible following that’s captivated the listening audience to the tune of 100M global streams, hitting with the 1-2 punch of “Next Town Over” and “Bed We Made” since inking his record deal has quickly introduced his beat laced melodies to an even wider audience.
He now delivers his brand-new single, “You Get Me.”
The song, co-written by LECADE, Gabe Foust and Jacob Hackworth, veers slightly from what we’ve come to expect from him by intriguingly injecting a stark amount of moodiness into the intro that expertly laces the underlaying beats to carry the darker tone of the remorse filled lyrics.
With a pure vulnerability embedded into his vocals, LECADE uses the natural ebbs and flows of his voice to hold the power pack of emotions as he sits within his own regret through each of the verses, constantly torturing himself with the reminders that he broke an angel’s heart.
Battling his internal emotions and how losing her has negatively impacted him, he paints the heartbreaking truth of his now fractured mindset as he laments that he’s been carrying the devil on his left shoulder through a myriad of vices in his efforts to unsuccessfully rid himself of her memory.
While confessing in the second verse that he can’t unbreak his heart no matter how hard he tries, by maturely facing himself in the mirror he adds an additional punch to the chorus, crafting cleverly written lyrics that unfairly point blame at her for his self-destructive, wasted methods:
“You get me stoned
You get me wasted
You’re just as strong as the stuff I’ve been taking
Yeah, I wish you’d get me outta this bar
And get me back into your bed
Since you said you wish you never met me
Gone is all you get me”
Running the gamut of emotions that we all experience when battling a tough heartbreak, there’s a naturalness that flows the up and down feels that LECADE exposes throughout the song that helps gravitate a very strong connection factor with the broken hearted strugglers who are just trying to make it through their day one step at a time.
