CLIFF DORSEY - Your Guess - Black Sheep Label
Could we be seeing a new transition in country music? From the depths underneath the powerhouse vocalists and R&B and pop-influenced riddles, there may be a new sub-genre emerging….traditional country music.
Once again embracing the fiddle and steel-guitar as the predominant instruments accompanied by down-to-earth, unapologetically throwback lyrics to simpler times, there may be a new moment that is about to take a part of country music back to where it came from originally.
Cliff Dorsey, a Florida native who now calls Nashville home, is building a music catalogue that pays homage to the traditional side of country music that has made so many fans fall in love with the genre for years. “Your Guess”, his brand-new single, is available digitally and on all streaming platforms now via the Black Sheep Label.
An upbeat melody headlined by the fiddle and steel guitar lay the perfect backdrop for Dorsey’s strong, controlled, twangy vocal delivery that will immediately attract to the traditional country fan in all of us. A toe-tapper to its core, the song rolls through the verses and soars into the chorus with a sing-along element that infectiously invades the listener’s head long after its conclusion.
Lyrically, the tune tells the tale of a young man trying to subdue his demons in an effort to save his relationship. When the woman he loves has finally had enough of his antics and leaves, he realizes he’ll do anything to win her back. The song’s conclusion leaves the ending up to the listener…will she come back? As the chorus’s final line illustrates, “you’re guess is as good as mine”.
Originally from Alachua County, FL, Dorsey now calls Nashville home and has been singing, songwriting, and playing around town and in his home state for the past few years, honing his craft and gaining the experience necessary to take his career to the next level. His invocative story-telling and deep, strong vocal delivery deserve the attention of all fans of country music, and his traditional style represent a possible turn in a new direction the genre could turn in future years. The 29-year old’s music adds a modern flare to undeniable elements of the likes of Johnny Cash, George Strait, and Keith Whitely to collectively contribute to a truly unique sound and approach.
Cliff worked with Zach Swon and Colton Swon of The Swon Brothers on his debut EP with Black Sheep Records, ‘New Neon’, which featured the tracks “Cold Shoulder”, “Girls Do”, and “Raise One”, all of which served as a formal introduction of the Florida native and his music to the wider country music audience.
