CAYLEE HAMMACK - The Hill - Capitol Records Nashville
Immediately following the release of her debut single, “Family Tree”, in 2019, Caylee Hammack was seen by fans, critics, and media as a truly unique artist. And in the years that have followed since, she has only enhanced her reputation as one of the most sophisticated, candid, and original singer-songwriters we have in country music.
Her latest tune, “The Hill”, is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via Capitol Records Nashville.
Written by Hammack along with Tenille Townes and Logan Wall, “The Hill” is a perfect example of everything we love about this talented songstress, incorporating a unique blend of bluegrass and Celtic influences into her own adaptation of modern country along with invocative lyrics and her trademark powerhouse delivery.
In today’s music industry, there is plenty of parody, and what listeners are often longing for is relatability. Whether it is a light-hearted song or an emotionally-toiling tune, we want to be able to connect with the subject matter. Unfortunately, heartache and heartbreak are all too common for a lot of us or have been in the past, and “The Hill” paints an accurate picture of a vulnerable account of the emotional effects a relationship’s trials can have on us.
“Your side or mine
The real fine line we’re painting
A mess we’re making of love
Who really cares who’s right or wrong?
If this is the hill we’re dying on”
Caylee’s vocals are beautifully on-point, perfectly matching the vibe of the musical arrangement. Lyrically, this is a heart-on-your-sleeve poetic account of surrender. Cleverly-written and beautifully-delivered, “The Hill” promises to become one of Hammack’s most impressive releases to date.
“’The Hill’ is written from a place of a sad surrender, like a white flag being waved by a broken arm. It’s the battle that feels like the end of the war of love with this person, but you’re not quite ready for it all to end,” Hammack said. “So you finally just surrender, not caring whether you were right or they were right, you just don’t want to lose the person on ‘The Hill’ you were fighting on.”
In just a matter of a few years, the Ellaville, GA native has become a sough-after artist with whom to collaborate. “Small Town Hypocrite” featuring Chris Stapleton was celebrated as one of the standout tracks of 2020, while “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” with Miranda Lambert won the “Musical Event Of The Year” at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Hammack continues to add to an already-stellar musical collection of unique and diverse songs, blurring the lines of country, Celtic, and bluegrass as she garners droves of new fans with each release.
