On the heels of his smash singles “Some Girls” and “Cold Beer Calling My Name,” Jameson Rodgers announced the September 17, 2021 release of his debut full-length album Bet You’re From a Small Town. He’s also gifting his fans with the new song “One Day” whenever they pre-order/pre-save a copy of it.

The simplicity of the mid-tempo groove continues to stamp home what is becoming his signature sound, but it also expertly allows the proper room for him to carry the song with his incredible vocals and convey all the emotions needed to wrap into this lyric, which basically comes across like an open letter to the girl that broke his heart.

He uses the opening verse to run through a list of all the things that he “one day” isn’t going to be doing anymore: won’t lose his mind when his team loses on Saturday, won’t work sunup to sundown for little pay, etc. All of this pulls you into the chorus, though, where he then hits you with the hook that in a nutshell says he won’t get over her and his broken heart until the day he dies, but in a much cleverer way: “One day I'll get over you, one day I'm gonna die.”

The heaviness of that hook continues throughout the remainder of the song as he takes you inside what his own funeral may look like when he sings of people sitting in church telling stories about him, and then again later during the bridge, by reiterating the hook when he sings, “One day I won't love you, baby when I'm long gone.”

Though this is a darker song from Rodgers than we’ve heard from him in the past, the lyrics are spot on in capturing the hurt and pain of a breakup. However, because of the darker tones it’s easy to see why this was released as a preview to fans and not to radio, though this may be some of Rodgers most poetic lyrics to date making it well worth a listen.
