CAYLEE HAMMACK - Breaking Dishes - Capitol Records Nashville
Widely-renowned singer, songwriter, and producer Caylee Hammack continues to make waves across country music and beyond with each new release. Her latest effort further proves her ingenuity, flexibility, and diversity and may be one of her best to date. “Breaking Dishes” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via Capitol Records Nashville.
Written by Hammack along with Mikey Reaves and Gordie Sampson, the track tells the tale of a woman’s patience expiring as she erupts with emotionally-charged outrage to end a toxic relationship. Accompanied by an infectiously catchy melody, Caylee’s sensationally fervent vocals dance through quick-darted verses and permeate into the sing-along chorus.
“’Breaking Dishes’ is a sonic ‘eye for an eye.’ Hell hath no fury like a woman scored, as they say,” Hammack said. “I don’t make a habit of throwing things, no, but I wanted to make a song for scorned women to vent to. It fell out of the sky and into our laps one day in 2018 in a writer’s room, now six years later, it has found its avenue to be shared with the world. Here we are, breaking dishes and breaking up.”
A catchy hook led by an equally as catchy banjo lick introduces the track before Hammack takes command of the tune with her confident, twangy vocal bravado. It’s an instant toe-tapping, body sway-inducing sing-along number, encouraging the listener to engage. Whereas past efforts from Caylee have approached themes of heartache and betrayal from a subdued ballad, “Breaking Dishes” adds flair and sass along with an aggressively defiant approach to ending a doomed relationship.
Hammack’s vocals are incredibly powerful and controlled, and the vibe of the tune once again blurs the lines of multiple genres, a trite at which she has excelled since she first impacted the industry only a few years ago.
“He’s probably halfway across town
Bottom of the bottle right now
Thinking ‘bout things he shouldn’t
And doing things I wouldn’t
I walk around this house
Thinking ‘bout tearing it down
You burn me once, shame on you
Burn me twice and I’ll burn you”
Hammack released her debut album, ‘If It Wasn’t For You,’ in August 2020 to high and well-deserved praise from fans, critics and media alike. The record featured standout singles “Family Tree” and “Just Friends”, while also leading her to ACM nominations for New Female Artist Of The Year in both 2020 and 2021. Her appearance on Miranda Lambert’s “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” won Music Event Of The Year at the 2020 ACM’s.
In a matter of just a few years, the Ellaville, GA native has become a sought-after artist with whom to collaborate. “Small Town Hypocrite” featuring Chris Stapleton was celebrated as one of the standout tracks of 2020 along with the aforementioned joint-release with Lambert. Hammack continues to add to an already-stellar musical collection of unique and diverse songs, blurring the lines of country, Celtic, and bluegrass as she garners droves of new fans with each release. “Breaking Dishes” looks to continue that trend, and may just be one of her most successful yet.
