RUNAWAY JUNE - New Kind of Emotion - Quartz Hill Records
Laying strong foundations with girl-powered anthems “Lipstick” and “Buy My Own Drinks,” Runaway June quickly became a modern era trio to watch as a tremendous buzz built around them and accolades continued stacking up.
Though they’ve experienced some lineup shifts, the current incarnation of Jennifer Wayne, Natalie Stovall, and Stevie Woodward have crafted an intriguingly fresh sound that’s allowed each immense talent to flourish individually while holding the signature harmonies and unique touches that are the definition of Runaway June.
Breaking open their newest chapter over the past year with very well-received releases, “Broken Hearts (Do Broken Things),” “Make Me Wanna Smoke,” “Fine Wine,” and “Miss Me,” the trio now returns with their latest effort, “New Kind of Emotion.”
Through it’s float on the breeze melodic softness, the guide of the instrumentation captures the heart swooned feels embedded into Woodward’s lead vocal as she navigates the often-unexplainable feeling of your heart racing as you begin to fall.
Poetically comparing the emotional glide to a rolling river and an open highway, the opening verse instantly highlights the exhilarating rush of not really knowing where it all might lead while the second then shifts into a awestricken picture of the vivid colors he’s added to her otherwise black and white life as she tip toes a cloud 9 heart flutter; “You woke me up to sunshine in the morning and coffee in my cup.”
Providing a stellar snapshot of their blended harmonies, an overwhelming blissfulness radiates the lyrical lift of the chorus.
“A new kind of emotion, you set it in motion
Unfamiliar feeling yeah you broke my heart open
And we got this crazy cool connection
Little bit obsession
And I’m high on knowin’
A new kind of emotion”
Outlining the familiar feeling of falling in love and drawing truth to the fact that when it’s right there’s no real way to explain it, Runaway June adds a strong connectivity with the in-love listener as they leave them singing euphorically:
“This is what a love song feels like
This is what a love song feels like
This is what a love song feels like
This is what a love song feels like”
