ERIN ENDERLIN
FT. TERRI CLARK
"If There Weren't So Many Damn Songs"
Black Crow Productions
Singer/Songwriter Erin Enderlin has been uniquely releasing her latest music one song at a time rather than putting her focus on creating a full-length album. By doing so, she’s allowed the listener to really live in the moment with each individual song and completely soak it in.
Of course, because Enderlin’s songs are so deep and rich with songwriting craftsmanship – look no further than the previous two songs she’s released “If I’m Not In Hell” and “Somebody’s Shot of Whiskey” for examples – her fans are chomping at the bit for more; and they are about to get it!
As Enderlin made the official announcement about her new EP Barroom Mirrors (releasing October 15, 2021), she’s also teased it with the release of another new song, “If There Weren’t So Many Damn Songs.”
Co-written with Kayla Ray, and featuring country music legend Terri Clark, Enderlin delivers her signature, traditional tilted country music style - flooded with prominent fiddle and steel – wrapped into a toe-tapping melody that bring us straight into the honky-tonk.
The lyrics focus is mostly on a list of reasons that someone (in this first-person case, her) can’t quit heading to the barroom and drinking when they’re facing tough times. SPOILER ALERT – it all points back to songs:
“So many songs on the jukebox”
“So many songs about the bottle."
“So many songs about the barroom.”
But in true Enderlin fashion, her storytelling paints such vivid pictures that the lyrics spring to life as your listening, making them ultra-relatable to specific moments from our own lives when she sings of how the honky-tonk was made for heartbroken fools like her and how she frequents her local watering hole so much that the barmaid knows her name.
Enlisting Terri Clark for this song elevates it that much more, and it also proves to be a great move as her and Enderlin’s vocals uniquely stand out as each tackles a different verse. However, when they come together so fluidly during the chorus it’s true music magic.
Couple that music magic with the tongue and cheek fact that this song is absolutely perfect to be one of those on a jukebox in an old honky-tonk for the broken-hearted fool to play while drinking, and Erin Enderlin has taken the anticipation for her new EP and heightened it that much more with the release of “If There Weren’t So Many Damn Songs.”
